How long is my FVP valid for?
Your FVP is valid for 30 days.
How many times can I renew my FVP?
Foreign Vehicle Permits can be renewed for a further 30 days.
Do all borders entering into Thailand require an FVP?
It is the law in Thailand that every foreign vehicle, except for those exempt, must have an FVP. Although, at the time of publishing this, we know there is some inconsistency and some borders are not requesting these.
Can I get a TIP (Temporary Import Permit) if I don't have an FVP?
No, it is a requirement of the Thailand Government that you must have an FVP prior to receiving your TIP.
Can I get my FVP when I arrive at a Thailand border?
No, you must apply at least 15 days in advance or, for an extra fee, we do offer an express service which takes 2-4 working days.
Do you need to physically collect your FVP?
No, your FVP will be sent as a soft copy which you can download and print to show at the border. The original will be posted to you to the address supplied.
Is 3rd party vehicle insurance included in the price of the FVP?
Yes, 3rd party insurance is included in the price and is valid for 30 days. The cover is for THB1,000,000 which is the legal requirement to obtain an FVP. Insurance agencies that offer insurance prior to your entry often only sell to the value of THB500,000.
Are there any exemptions?
Yes, the following vehicles are exempt:
- Vehicles used for collaboration between Thai Government and Foreign Government
- Foreign registered vehicle frequently used around the border which is registered to the local Customs and/or the local Immigration.
- Vehicles registered in Lao, Malaysia and Singapore
Can I bring my motorcycle to Thailand via Air?
Yes, you can bring your motorcycle into Thailand by air. The FVP cost is the same but you will need a licenced Travel Agent to be with you for the clearance. The price will be determined on a case-by-case basis and ranges between $200 and $300
Is a Guide necessary?

The rules from the Department of Land Transport State the Following:
In addition, the travel agency must assign tour guides/escorts to assist and lead traveler(s) throughout the whole journey in Thailand. The guidelines are as follow;
- 1-5 vehicles: At least one tour guide/escort and one escorting vehicle.
- 6-15 vehicles: At least 2 tour guides/escorts and 2escorting vehicles
- More than 15 vehicles: At least 3 tour guides/escorts and 3 escorting vehicles
