The Department of Land Transport has set out a measure requiring those who wish to use foreign vehicles to apply for Foreign Vehicle Permit before entering Thailand.
Obtaining an FVP is essential for securing your Temporary Import Permit (TIP) at entry borders to Thailand. We have partnered with a Licensed Travel Agent who has extensive experience in handling FVPs, TIPs, Insurance and travel guidance in Thailand. You can trust us to help you navigate the necessary steps smoothly and efficiently.
When I reached Asia at Malaysia I got various informations about what is necessary to enter Thailand with my own motorcycle. I tried my luck at the border, with the result of beeing refused, because I did not file for the FPV. The officials there gave me Thum Jittipon‘s contact. His Agency „seeing unseen“ supposed to help me with that paperwork. No - not only Thum helped me, he made the impossible possible, organized everything as quick as I couldn’t believe, texted me late at night to make sure we don’t loose time and within a week me AND my bike entered Thailand legally! But the story doesn’t end here: since Tom is a biker himself, we stays in contact; he was a great help as well for the border crossings to Cambodia and Laos later ( recommended which border crossing to use, helped to fill out forms, gave me links to necessary Government- pages etc…) And when I visited Chiang Mai, we even met for a beer, had a great talk, I saw his bike and even got to know his sweet family! As soon as you realize, the only way to get in and out of Thailand without the stress of „not having all legal documents- I could be refused at the border to get in or out“ - you will admit to yourself, the costs for Thum‘s service are well worth the peace of mind! The rest comes as a free bonus. Thank you Thum - you made my trip a lot better / easier.
Tom assisted us with our FVP when we were in a bind at the Malay-Thai border. Fortunately, he was able to expedite our application given there were other applicants he was assisting at the same time as us. His communication was timely, and he could answer all of our questions. The whole process felt under control, and we had no worries driving around Thailand given our legality to be there. We were also able to extend our 30 day TIP with customs with our FVP. In hindsight, I wish we had a simpler process to sort out Thai regulations and who to contact when we first tried to cross into Thailand, so when Chris and Tim mentioned to us their plan to build this website, we were ecstatic. Great idea, and I hope it helps everyone else, too
Can't recommend highly enough with the service we received crossing into Thailand from Malaysia. We were very tight time wise, and we were lucky to get our FVP within 3 days. In hindsight, I wish we had organised it before we crossed the border. These guys have a wealth of knowledge about the FVP and temporary import permits and border crossings in general. Thanks so much for your help in a stressful situation.

Tom was referred to me by a fellow biker and was very helpful and professional. Getting the FVP is quite a process in Thailand. Paying for it was also a bit of a mission (prior to the online payment form on this website) but Tom got it all done. Communication was excellent and he went out of his way to make work. Highly recommended!
Your FVP is valid for 30 days.
Yes, Foreign Vehicle Permits can be renewed for a further 30 days. Please complete a new application, allowing enough time for processing. You will need the FVP to renew your TIP.
It is the law in Thailand that every foreign vehicle, except for those exempt, must have an FVP. Although, at the time of publishing this, we know there is some inconsistency and some borders are not requesting these.
Malaysian registered vehicles are exempt from requiring an FVP
It is a requirement of the Thailand Government that you must have an FVP prior to receiving your TIP. Although we do understand there are some borders which still allow foreign vehicles to enter without an FVP.
No, you must apply at least 15 days in advance or, for an extra fee, we do offer an express service which takes 2-4 working days.
No, your FVP will be sent as a soft copy which you can download and print 2 copies to show at the border. The original will be posted to you to the address supplied if requested.
Yes, 3rd party insurance is included in the price and is valid for 30 days. The cover is for THB1,000,000 which is the legal requirement to obtain an FVP. Insurance agencies that offer insurance prior to your entry often only sell to the value of THB500,000.
Yes, you can bring your motorcycle into Thailand by air. The FVP cost is the same but you will need a licenced Travel Agent to be with you for the clearance. The price ranges between $200 and $300 which you can discuss in further detail with Tom.
The Department of Land Transport states you must have 3rd part vehicle insurance included up to the value of THB1,000,000. This is the minimum requirement to obtain your TIP and is included at no extra charge when you apply for your Foreign Vehicle Permit.
From time to time we’ll send you updates about border crossings and any new rules in regards to entering Thailand with your vehicle.
